Abstract: The personality and moral values of a person are important factors in understanding that persons political associations and beliefs. There has been shown to be an association between a person’s emotional responses and their politics; emotions such as fear, anger, and disgust playing a significant role in shaping political attitudes and beliefs. But previous research ignored moral values specifically in favor of general personality factor or observed directly political values. The present study uses data from the 2021 General Social Survey to decompose the association of moral values, sex, education, and class on political affiliation. As could be assumed, a persons beliefs about moral values appear to have a significant association with their political beliefs, one which is stronger for some values than that of sex, class, or education.
