Abstract: Adolescence and emerging adulthood, between the ages of 18 and 25 is the period during which youth develop personal abilities, and self-competence (River & Munoz, 2011). At the same time, depression is more common in adolescents than adults. Thus, it is understood that self-esteem and views of oneself are precursors for later success. The present study found a weak association between adolescent self-image and adult intimate relationship satisfaction. Additionally, depression in adolescence was found to have a potential impact on adolescent self-image. Further research will be needed to determine other, potentially stronger, influences on adult intimate relationship development and satisfaction.
