Abstract:

The objective of the present analysis was to examine gender differences within the relationship between alcohol abuse and domestic violence. Data was gathered from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). The participant pool consisted of 43,093 non-institutionalized citizens from the ages of 18 to 24. After coding questions from the data set that represented variables regarding alcohol abuse frequency, domestic violence, and gender, different statistical analysis tests were run. These tests revealed a significant association between alcohol abuse and domestic violence. Furthermore, they also revealed that gender is a moderator for this association. The information from this present analysis could potentially be extremely beneficial for psychologists, therapists, and groups that work with domestic violence victims.
